B is for Books

…that I’ve currently gotten back to. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved reading books. I can’t get enough of them. It’s an escape from reality for me. The line between imagination and reality get seriously blurred. The characters become people that I feel I know. My friends, even. When I got to University, the amount of books I read (for fun) declined drastically. The textbooks took their place. When I switched programs, the reading stopped all together. I made a conscious effort to change that this year, a new years resolution if you will. My me-time, chill-time was my reading time and I haven’t regretted that decision so far. I don’t know if I complained here, but at some point I felt so uninspired and unable to create. It was as if my imagination packed it’s bags and left for good. But since I’ve started reading again, I’m beginning to regain some of it back…except that creating is still an issue. You read stuff to give you inspiration and end up comparing yourself to the author/poet, you begin to feel not good enough…but that’s a story for another day. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; To me, the worst part of finishing a book is the harsh jolt back to reality when you realise that these people and the adventures you embarked on together, were all in your head.

Anyhow, I made a private wishlist on my birthday strictly comprising of books I’d like to read before the year runs out. So far I’ve gotten 8 of them thanks to some of my more attentive friends.

And it’s almost halfway through the year but the mission is still on, 20 more books to go. If there’s any fellow bookworm reading this, any particular book you’ve read that might be of interest?

B is also for Believing..

Believing in yourself, your abilities and your potential.

This year has been filled with many challenges for me as far as personal growth. But I’m not gonna sit here and say I’ve got it all figured out and I’ve come out triumphant (yet). I’m still struggling with some, still learning and accepting myself and my flaws, still dealing with self-doubt and confidence…but with each new day and each new challenge comes a lesson learnt.

So to the rest of the obstacles that are yet to come my way;

Bring it on.

May God give you the strength to overcome yours

I’ve given one too many regarding my being M.I.A so we’ll just skip right ahead.

I think part of the problem was feeling and treating this blog like it was a responsibility of mine to update.

Instead something I once enjoyed.

I’m doing this A-Z challenge Myne had on her blog.

Granted mine won’t be an everyday thing, it’s the end of the semester so school won’t permit.

But it’s definitely going to be less sporadic than I’m used to.

Crawled up on my friends couch,

nursing a sprained calf muscle,

still in my sweaty gym attire

with 3 school projects on my mind

have a stupid radio show that I have to host from midnight to 6am

with no discussion topics (who the hell listens to the radio at that time anyways?)

have to get my ass home and shower then head back to school before the buses stop running

yet all I want to do is stuff my face with ice cream till I start feeling again

His kisses were hot but his heart was cold

As he grabbed for everything else but my hands to hold

He used my mind and my emotions but never my body

A part of me wishes he did because, at that moment, at least I’d know he wants me

My arms, ache from being held wide open, ready to let him in

My back breaks from trying to win his trust and gain his heart

But my arms are still empty and my back is damn near in pieces

And yet without rhyme or reason, I persist

With echoes of ‘one last time’ and ‘what if’s

But I stand here with my resignation let-ter

Because I find you seem to get-a thrill from making me spill sweat and blood

So I may stu-stutter a little while giving you this speech

But I’m sick of the girl I used to be, looking down on me, thinking;

“Where did you go wrong?”

“What happened to your resolve?”

“You used to be so strong and wouldn’t let no one get the best of you.”

So here I am letting you know that I’m through

Cause maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t with me

Maybe your heart is with someone else already

Maybe she doesn’t want to be with you and you can’t see beyond her

Maybe you tried to get a replacement but the deeper you fell

You could tell that I wasn’t, will never and don’t even want to be her

Whatever the case, I won’t settle. It’s all or nothing with you

And I know it would hurt a lot more to walk away and find out you felt this too

But I can deal with that, it too shall pass

Never knowing what you wanted from me I tried to be all I could be

The end result would’ve been me breaking my own heart eventually

With unrequited devotion and assumptions in good faith

So I decided to mute my heart, put my head back in charge, and set things straight

Fighting for this proved useless ‘cause I’ve been in this thing alone

And yes, I know you showed signs of interest, but you weren’t ready to give us a go

I wasn’t worth the effort to you, time and time again you showed.

So after doing the best I can, by being me and more

I am backing out of this battlefield, because this…this is no longer my war.

Full Circle

I dedicate my 9009th tweet to you that has made me an expert at waiting.

Time and time again, I say I’m done with you. And I mean it. Every. Single. Time.

But then you say or do something that makes me second guess my decision.

And it’s not like you say/do it directly, if that was the case atleast I could hold you accountable.

It’s always with subliminal messages and vague gestures. Leaving them open to interpretation.

And because I’m so flipping optimistic(?) I assume the best.

And wait for something directed at me to justify my assumption.

Which is why I pay special attention, reading between every bloody line and punctuation.

Hanging on where I should let go. Listening where I should be talking.

Each time thinking; this could be it!

Hoping to see signs that I’m not fooling myself.

But at the end of every night you stand me up or you break your word. There are no signs to read.

It’s as clear as day. I am.

As I stay awake late nights waiting for some sort of response from you.

The type that never comes. Only a half assed apology the following day at best.

I realize that I’m turning into that girl I usually laugh at.

The girl I swore that I’d never become.

Delusional and insane.

Insane because I keep doing this over and over and over and over..

Each time hoping for a change in your attitude.

But since I’m here writing what 140 characters wouldn’t let me

I know I’m back where I started from.

So this time, without a doubt, I’m done with you.
